INEC Moves Presidential Election to 16 January 2027
Following the enactment of the Electoral Act 2026, INEC revised its schedule: Presidential and National Assembly elections now hold Saturday, 16 January 2027, with Governorship and State Assembly elections on Saturday, 6 February 2027 — earlier than the previously announced February/March dates.

Continuous Voter Registration Closes With 10.18 Million New Registrants
INEC's nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise concluded on 30 August 2026, adding a cumulative 10,188,755 new registrants to the National Register of Voters, which stood at roughly 93.4 million ahead of the 2023 election. New registrations are undergoing de-duplication before being added to the final register.

INEC to Introduce Downloadable Voter Cards for 2027
INEC has confirmed plans to roll out downloadable Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general elections, after the feature could not be deployed in time for 2026 off-cycle governorship elections due to infrastructure readiness.
