Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway 'On Course', Says Works Minister

Minister of Works David Umahi has reaffirmed that the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway — one of the Tinubu administration's flagship infrastructure projects — remains firmly on course, describing it as a strategic investment capable of transforming commerce, employment, and connectivity across the Niger Delta.

The 700-kilometre road, running from Victoria Island in Lagos to Calabar in Cross River State, broke ground in March 2024. Section 1 — a 47.47km stretch in Lagos — was commissioned in May 2026 after reaching roughly 70% completion earlier in the year.

Work has since progressed into Cross River State, where several kilometres of Continuous Reinforced Concrete Pavement (CRCP) have already been laid as part of a 30-kilometre stretch within the state.

The project sits alongside the Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway as one of over 2,700km of federal highways currently under construction nationwide — a central plank of the administration's case for a second term.
