INEC's Continuous Voter Registration: What You Need to Know

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) runs Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) year-round, allowing eligible Nigerians to register for the first time, update their details, or transfer their registration to a new polling unit.

To register, you must be a Nigerian citizen, at least 18 years old, and not already registered elsewhere. INEC has expanded access through online pre-registration, followed by an in-person visit to a designated registration centre to complete biometric capture and collect your Permanent Voter's Card (PVC).

Under the Electoral Act 2026, voter registration closes 90 days before election day — so with the presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled for Saturday, 16 January 2027 (and governorship elections on 6 February 2027), intending voters are strongly encouraged to complete their registration well ahead of that cutoff.

If you've moved states or local governments since you last voted, you'll need to formally transfer your polling unit — simply having a PVC from a previous address will not let you vote in a different constituency.
